During the 20th century, devastating events prevailed over the encouraging ones. Two World Wars appeared during the 1900s: World War I and World War II. Many countries lost soldiers over the course of both wars. During the First World War, America originally decided to remain neutral. American ships had to cease trading with Germany due to a naval blockade by Britain. This effect did not stop Woodrow Wilson from exchanging products with European countries. Wilson trading with Britain and France angered Germany and forced America into war. This war that America was forced into caused roughly 100,000 deaths, and World War II, alone, led to nearly 500,000 deaths. The Charter had 8 clauses. The major components include : countries seek no elevation in power, territorial or other, respect all rights of the people to choose the form of government which they will live, bring the fullest collaboration between all countries’ economic fields, and all nations of the world should abandon the use of force (Duhaime web). All of these clauses have one thing in common: they all help America as a country. The Lend-Lease Act allowed America to move forward and contain an active conflict in the face of war. Concerning the Lend-Lease Act, Kennedy Hickman writes, â€Å"Seeking to move the nation towards a more active role in the conflict, Roosevelt wished to provide Britain with all possible aid short of war. As such, British warships were permitted to make repairs in American ports and training facilities for British servicemen were constructed in the US. To ease Britain s shortage of war materials, Roosevelt pushed for the creation of the Lend-Lease Program† (web). The Lend-Lease Act helped Britain because it allowed new military weapons into their country for war.
